Property Taxes
I just received my new assessment of property value for tax puposes from the Grant County Assessor’s Office, and the valuation is totally unreasonable considering the current national housing crisis. I called the Assessor’s office, and they have a big chip on their shoulder because they’ve been getting tons of phone calls complaining about the current assessment. They are defending the legality of using the peak property values as “fair value”. While this may be legal, it certainly isn’t ethical. Most Sunserra home-owners are not permanent residents, and don’t even take advantage of most of the things the county taxes pay for (schools, roads, etc..). They are using Sunserra as their cash-cow, which I feel is their right to do, but not at unreasonable property valuations.
I strongly encourage every Sunserra home owner to call the Assessor’s office: 1-800-572-0119.
Assessor: Jeffery Black (ext. 421)
His immediate supervisor: Barry Mose (ext. 324)
Also, you can go to their website and file a petition to the Board of Equalization to have your property value re-calculated. The website is: grantcountyweb.us
Click on the tab under “Real property valuation”. Fax your completed form to Jill at 509-754-6098. (Deadline is 12/12/08).
Sincerely,
David Reed
